You already know my love for a good rosé is strong (here), and that I am typically partial to the French rosés, but this one out of Cali is about to live up to its name! The tangy acidity is complemented by bright fruit to produce a wine that is as easy to drink as water...but way more fun! If you haven't hopped on the rosé bandwagon yet, it is about time. This is not your mama's white Zinfandel! There is a wide variety of rosés available from different regions, different varietals, and varied winemaking processes. When I choose a rosé, I tend to go for the ones that are more of a salmon-colored, light pink. This is typically the color of my favorite Provençal rosés, which are blends of Grenache, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. They are known for their bright flavors of watermelon and raspberry, mixed with fresh herbs. They are known to be some of the driest rosés, as well. So if you don't like any sweetness in your wine, check out the rosés from Provence, France. Because the Summer Water rosé is also made from Grenache and Syrah, it shares a lot of the same qualities. Probably why I liked it so much ;-)
The best part about rosé is that they don't have to cost you an arm and a leg! They are relatively cheap to make, don't require years of aging, and are still (surprisingly) underappreciated in the United States. No need to pay more than $15-20 for a really delicious bottle. So go ahead, chill that bottle of pink wine and enjoy la vie en rose!
