Long before I knew anything about wine (like, my 2 for $10 Yellowtail from CVS was about as fancy as it got), I spent 6 months in the Marche region of Italy. It is a stunning region of rolling hills, agriculture, and incredible limestone coastlines. I lived in Urbino, which is the most quintessential Italian town up in the hills. If you travel to Italy and want to go off the beaten path, Urbino is a must! While living here, I fell in love with the region's history, food, and, of course, wine. Once a week, I would walk into town and stop by my favorite wine shop and have them refill my 5L glass jug for about 15 euros. Don't worry, I shared! I loved how much pride the people of Marche had for their products. It was rare to find meats, produce, wine, cheese, etc. from outside the region. Therefore, my love of wine began with the wines of Marche. Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi and Lacrima di Morro d'Alba were my go to white and red, respectively. I have yet to find my favorite red stateside, but Verdicchio is easily found in most wine shops.

Verdicchio has been made in Marche for hundreds of years. It is often regarded as the "best wine for fish in Europe," due to its crisp freshness. The producer of the wine in this post uses stainless steel tanks for fermentation lasting 3 weeks, followed by 3 months of stainless steel aging. The lack of oak on this wine allows you to taste pure, unadulterated Verdicchio. And it is a beautiful thing! It will pair with almost anything out of the sea. If you saw my snapchats last night, you probably saw my preferred pairing for Verdicchio, Law and Order: SVU and a box of chocolates. Perfetto!

I would love to start a Q&A section on the blog soon. If you have any questions about wine, being a sommelier, or anything else, please shoot me a message on facebook, instagram, twitter, or comment below. Can't wait to hear from y'all!
