Y'all, I love a good theme. And with Halloween right around the corner, I could not pass up a wine called Spellbound! The last few Halloween nights, I have celebrated by having girlfriends over and passing out candy to the kids in my neighborhood. We watch fun Halloween movies, dress Rosie in ridiculous costumes, make snacks, and, of course, there is wine. I think I know which wine I will be serving this year!

A little bit about this varietal... Petite Sirah is primarily grown in Australia, California, France, and Israel. These wines are known for their blueberry, dark chocolate, sugar plum, and black pepper notes. They are bold, full-bodied, and in your face with the fruit. Petite Sirahs are typically high in tannins and can benefit from decanting....if you're feeling fancy ;-) I should also mention that this grape delivers a wine with one of the highest levels of anthocyanin (an antioxidant). Need another reason to hop on the Petite Sirah train? This stuff is just yummy. My favorite description is "velvety." So smooth, so good.

Spellbound does not disappoint in delivering exactly what you expect with a California Petite Sirah. You get the chocolate right away, the dark plum, and the peppery notes to round out the glass. If you are a fan of the fruity reds, give this one a try!

Spellbound Petite Sirah: 3.7/5
