Canned wine. It is a thing, and I like it. The concept started in Australia about 20 years ago, and it is just now making some big moves over here in the States. I have heard some buzzing about this new trend and had to try it out! There weren't too many options at the wine shop down the street, but they had this Alloy Wine Works Pinot Noir on a special display. And just like that, I got my first tallboy of wine... I also picked up one of my favorite boxed wines on the way to the register, just in case ;-) I got home and couldn't wait to pop that top! I felt like a kid with a new toy on Christmas!
Y'all, it was good! I don't really know what I expected, but this was some serious juice! It was easy drinking, with a nice burst of fruit, balanced with spice.
So, why canned wine? For one, they leave a very small environmental footprint. They are also so much lighter than a bottle of wine, which makes it perfect for throwing in a pack for camping or other adventures. If you enjoy your wine chilled, the can will let that happen much faster than a bottle. Does it taste tinny? Nope. Not even a little bit. The can imparts no flavor on the wine at all. The can also has the ability to make wines more approachable and less pretentious. So crack into a can of delicious wine, and let me know what you think!
