It's all Greek to me

A couple of months ago we packed up and headed across the pond to Greece! The land of amazing food, wine, people....let's be honest, amazing EVERYTHING. We started our journey in Athens. We stayed in an Airbnb, with the most incredible views. We spent the days museum hopping, and the nights sitting on the balcony, drinking wine, eating all the weird foods we could find at the local grocery stores, and staring at the ancient ruins while listening to the hustle and bustle of a busy city.
After a couple days in Athens, we headed to Mykonos. I am not sure what I expected when I got off the ferry, but boy did this island deliver. It was calm and peaceful, and such a contrast from Athens. We settled into our new Airbnb, rented a car, and we hit the ground running! The next few days, we explored the island, beach hopped, and just tried to take everything in. We were sad to leave, but knowing that we were headed to Santorini helped ease the pain.
Another ferry ride, and we arrived in the land of white and blue. Breathtaking. We met up with our porter, who led us through the winding walkways to our house. We were perched right on the edge of the calder, and it was nothing but sea views. We were starving when we arrived, so we continued our strict diet of gyros, orange Fanta, and wine, and began to explore what would become my favorite place on Earth. we went on a 4, probably closer to 5, hour hike from Oia to Fira. It was nice to get off the beaten path and do a little exploring. We stopped along the way at one of the black sand beaches, and it was the coolest beach I have ever seen! We finished off our hike with a celebratory gyro in the town of Fira before taking the bus back to Oia. One of my favorite parts of the trip had to be cliff diving in the Bay of Ammoudi. It was so fun!
When our days were up in Santorini, we begrudgingly boarded the ferry back to Athens. About half way through our ride, I woke up after being tossed out of my set. Yep, this was definitely the end. We were going to flip. Ok, so it probably wasn't really about to flip, but it sure did feel like it! The security personnel started gathering in the front, and I could see the panic on their faces. After our 6 hour ride turned into an 8 hour ride, I was kidding the dry ground when we arrived. All that excitement quickly dissipated once we realized that a strike was going on and everything was closed. Metros, trains, buses, stores, everything. We shared a cab with a couple of Russian girls we met on the sidewalk and headed into the city. We slept with our fingers and toes crossed that we would be able to make it to the airport in the morning. Thank goodness the strike ended that evening (we stayed here), and we had an easy trip home. I made a little video of our trip, and it is pretty obvious the parts of the trip that were my favorite. Greece, I will be back!
